Set up payouts with Stripe

Before your organization can sell tickets or accept donations, it needs a connected Stripe account. This is the one step everything else depends on — donations can't be switched on and ticket tiers can't go on sale until it's done.

Who can do this

Only an organization Owner. Moderators who open the page will see:

You do not have permission to manage this organization.

Note also that Payments only exists on organization settings, never on a ring's settings. If you're looking for it on a ring and can't find it, that's why.

Connect your account

  1. Go to your organization, then Settings → Payments.
  2. You'll see Not connected, with the note "Connect your Stripe account to receive ticket revenue and donations directly to your bank."
  3. Click Connect Stripe.
  4. You'll be sent to Stripe's own onboarding to create or link an account.
  5. When you finish, Stripe returns you to the Payments page and you'll see Stripe connected successfully.

If something goes wrong you'll see "Stripe connection failed. Please try again." — the link is single-use, so just click Connect Stripe again. Every attempt generates a fresh one.

What you'll see once connected

The Payments page shows three rows:

Row

What it means

Country

The country your Stripe account is registered in

Charges

Enabled / Disabled — whether you can take money

Payouts

Enabled / Disabled — whether money can reach your bank

Charges is the one that matters for Gathrings. Until it says Enabled, you can't turn on donations or put a ticket tier on sale.

Disconnecting

There's a Disconnect button on the Payments page once an account is linked. It asks you to confirm, and warns:

Your organization will stop receiving payments until you reconnect. Your Stripe account itself is not affected.

One thing the warning doesn't say: disconnecting also stops live ticket sales and donations immediately. If you have tiers on sale or active recurring donations, disconnect will break them with no further warning. Reconnect restores the link, but anything that failed in between is lost.
