Delete your account

Deactivate your account temporarily, or delete it permanently — how each one works, the 30-day window, and what stays behind.

Leaving Gathrings is your call, and you have two ways to do it. One is reversible, one isn't.

Deactivate or delete?

Deactivate

Delete

Your profile

Hidden from everyone

Removed

Signing in

Blocked until you reactivate

Gone for good

Your data

Kept, exactly as it was

Removed, with some exceptions below

Coming back

Just sign in again

Not possible — you'd start over

If you need a break, deactivate. If you want to be gone, delete.

Deactivate your account

  1. Go to Settings → Account.
  2. Under Danger Zone, choose Deactivate Account.
  3. Confirm.

Your profile stops being visible to other members and you can't sign in. Everything you've done stays where it is — your gatherings, your rings, your messages. Nothing is removed.

To come back, just sign in. Your account picks up where you left it.

Delete your account permanently

Before you start, two things are worth sorting out first:

  • If you're the only owner of an organization, make someone else an owner before you go. Otherwise the organization is left with nobody who can manage it.
  • If you give a recurring donation, cancel it first from Settings → Donations. Deleting your account doesn't stop a recurring donation.

Then:

  1. Go to Settings → Account.
  2. Under Danger Zone, choose Delete Account Permanently.
  3. Read what's going to happen, then choose Continue.
  4. Type DELETE in the box to confirm.
  5. Choose Delete My Account.

You're signed out straight away.

You have 30 days to change your mind

Deleting isn't instant. Your account is scheduled for deletion 30 days out, and nothing is removed during that window.

To cancel, just sign in again. You'll be shown when your account is scheduled to go, with a Cancel Deletion button. Take it, and your account carries on as though nothing happened.

If you'd rather not wait

Sign back in and choose Delete Now instead of Cancel Deletion. That skips the 30 days and removes your account immediately. There's no undo.

What's removed

  • Your profile — name, photo, bio, city, birthday, anything you filled in
  • Your settings, notification choices and saved searches
  • Your RSVPs
  • Your organization and ring memberships
  • Your connections and matches
  • Conversations between you and an organizer, including the messages in them
  • Your sign-in details, including a linked Google account

What stays

Some things outlive your account, because removing them would take other people's history with them. Where that happens, your name comes off:

  • Comments you left on gatherings stay on the gathering, shown as Deleted User.
  • Messages you sent in group conversations stay in the thread for the other people in it, no longer shown as yours.
  • Photos you added to a gathering's album stay in the album.
  • Gatherings, rings and venues you created keep running for the people in them. They're no longer listed as yours.
  • Donation and ticket records stay, shown as Deleted account. Organizers have to keep these — they're accounting records, and for donations they may be tied to a tax receipt that's already been issued.

Common questions

Can I leave one ring without deleting my account? Yes. Open the ring and leave it. Deleting your account is only for leaving Gathrings entirely.

I can't sign in — can you delete my account for me? Yes. Write to us at [email protected] from the email address on the account and we'll take care of it.

Does deleting my account get me a refund? No. Refunds follow the refund policy and are handled by the organizer who sold you the ticket. Sort out any refund before you delete, since you'll lose access to your orders.
