Make a donation
How to give to an organization or ring — one-time or monthly, named or anonymous.
Make a donation
You'll need an account
You have to be signed in to donate. If you're not, the Donate button won't appear on the page at all — so if you've been sent a link and can't find a way to give, that's almost certainly why.
Sign in, or create an account, and reload the page.
Giving
On an organization's or ring's page, click Donate. You'll see:
Make a donation — Support this community with a one-time or monthly gift.
If the organization has written an appeal, it appears here — usually explaining what your money pays for.
Then:
- Choose a frequency — One-time or Monthly
- Pick an amount — tap one of the suggested amounts, or type your own
- Add a message if you'd like (optional)
- Donate anonymously if you'd rather your name wasn't shown
- Click Continue to payment
You'll be taken to Stripe's secure checkout to pay. Gathrings never sees or stores your card number.
Amount limits
Organizations set their own minimum, and sometimes a maximum. If your amount falls outside, you'll be told before you reach payment:
- Enter a donation amount.
- The minimum donation is …
- The maximum donation is …
All amounts are in Canadian dollars.
After you pay
You'll come back to the organization's page and see:
Thank you! Your donation was received.
A receipt arrives by email straight away, confirming the amount and who it went to.
If you change your mind on the payment screen, you'll return with Donation cancelled. and nothing will have been charged.
Monthly donations
Choosing Monthly sets up a recurring gift charged on the same date each month. It continues until you stop it.
You can cancel it yourself at any time from My donations — you don't need to contact anyone. See Manage or cancel a recurring donation.
Donating anonymously
The Donate anonymously switch keeps your name off anything the organization displays publicly.
It isn't invisible — the organization still has a record of the payment, and so does Stripe. It means your name isn't shown alongside the gift.
One thing to know before you give
A donation through Gathrings is not a tax receipt. Only a CRA-registered charity can issue one, and it issues them itself. The email you get is a payment confirmation, not a receipt you can claim.
See Why isn't my donation a tax receipt? if you were counting on claiming it.
