Invite people and share your event
Generate a link anyone can open without an account, share it anywhere, set it to expire, and revoke it if it travels too far.
An invite link lets people see your event and RSVP without a Gathrings account. It's how you reach the part of your community that hasn't signed up yet.
Making one
On the event, choose Generate invite link. You get:
- Copy — the link itself
- A QR code — for a poster, a slide, or a screen at another event
- Share via — WhatsApp, Telegram, X, Facebook, Reddit, LinkedIn or email
Members of the ring can share the event too, not just hosts. If you want people spreading the word, they don't have to come through you.
What the recipient sees
A clean invite page — "You're invited" — with the event, who's hosting, and View event & RSVP.
If you've chosen to keep the address private, they see "Location shared after you RSVP" instead of the venue. Useful when you're hosting at home.
Expiry
Under Link settings, set the link to expire after 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, or a date and time you pick. By default it never expires.
A good habit for anything sensitive. A link with no expiry posted in a group chat is still live a year later, long after you've stopped thinking about that event.
Regenerating and revoking
Regenerate issues a new link and kills the old one:
A new invite link was generated. The old one no longer works.
Revoke switches it off without making a replacement.
Both are instant. If a link has been forwarded somewhere you didn't intend, revoke first and ask questions after — anyone who opens the old one gets a clear "this invite was revoked, ask the host for a new one."
The current state is shown as Active, Revoked or Expired.
When someone says the link doesn't work
They'll have seen one of four messages, and each tells you what to do:
What they see | What it means |
|---|---|
Invite not found | Mistyped or truncated — send it again |
Invite revoked | You revoked it; generate a new one |
Invite expired | Past its expiry; extend or regenerate |
Event unavailable | The event was cancelled |
Links break most often by being pasted into a message that wraps them. If someone reports "not found," resend it as a plain link before assuming anything is wrong.
