Connect with people after an event

Pick who you'd like to stay in touch with after a gathering. Your picks stay private, and a chat opens only when two people pick each other.

You met people at a gathering. Connect is how you keep hold of the ones you'd like to see again, without anyone having to do the awkward part.

How it works

After an event, you're shown the people who were there. For each one you choose Connect or Not now.

Nobody is told what you chose. Not the person, not the organizer, not anyone.

If two people pick each other, you're both connected — and a conversation opens between you. If only one of you does, nothing happens and nobody finds out.

That's the whole mechanism. You're never turning anyone down in public, and nobody is ever left knowing they weren't picked.

Making your picks

The prompt appears after the event, headed "Want to stay in touch with anyone from [event]?"

Go through the people one at a time with Connect or Not now, or use the grid view to tap several and then Save changes — it shows how many you're about to add before you commit.

When you reach the end:

That's everyone from [event]. We'll reach out if anyone you picked picks you back. No need to check — you'll know.

That last line is meant literally. There's nothing to monitor. If it becomes mutual, you get a notification.

Changing your mind

Under You've picked, each person has a Withdraw option. Use it any time before the connection becomes mutual and the pick is simply gone.

Once you're both connected, withdrawing isn't the tool you want — see disconnecting, in the article on your connections.

Who appears

People who RSVP'd and checked in at the event. If you open it early you may see:

No one to pick from yet. Once people RSVP and check in, you'll be able to express interest in connecting after the event.

Anyone you're already connected with is skipped automatically — you'll see a note saying how many were left out.

Occasionally a pick can't be saved because that person is no longer available: they may have left Gathrings or closed their account.

A reminder, once

You'll get a notification nudging you to make your picks after an event. It's deliberately timed for while you still remember faces and names.

If you'd rather not have it, it's Reminder to pick people after an event in Settings → Notifications. Turning it off doesn't disable Connect — you can still go and make picks yourself. You just won't be prompted, and most people forget.
