Two separate places control what other people see. Section-by-section visibility is on your profile itself; the broader switches are in Preferences.

Hiding sections of your profile

Open your own profile — View profile from the menu under your name. Each section has a visibility control next to it, set to either:

  • Public — anyone who opens your profile sees it
  • Only you — nobody else does

The sections you can control separately are:

Section

What it holds

About

Your bio and the details you've filled in

Interests

The topics you picked

Communities

The organizations and rings you belong to

Gathrings

Events you're going to or have been to

Reputation

How you've shown up — attendance and standing

So you can keep a full bio public while hiding which events you attend, or show your communities but not your interests. Each is its own decision.

Your display name and photo are always visible. They're how people recognise you on a guest list.

Your email address is never shown, whatever these are set to.

Location, discovery and read receipts

In Settings → Preferences, under Privacy:

Show my location — displays your city and region on your public profile. Off means you still get local results; other people just don't see where you are.

Make profile discoverable — lets others find you in search. Turn it off and people can still see your profile if they come across you through an event or a ring; you just won't turn up in a search for your name.

Read receipts — this one works both ways. Turn it off and you won't see when people read your messages, and they won't see when you read theirs. You can't keep one direction without the other.

A sensible starting point

If you're not sure, leave things public and tighten later. Gathrings works by people finding each other — a profile locked down to nothing makes it harder for an organizer to approve you.

The exception is location. If you'd rather your city wasn't on display, turn Show my location off now; it doesn't cost you anything, since discovery still works on where you actually are.
