Editing a group shows 'no permission' error even though the save succeeds
**What happens:** When an organizer edits a group and clicks Save, the page shows a contradictory state: 1. The save request succeeds (Network tab confirms `PUT .../update` returned `200`) 2. A green success toast appears: **"Ring updated."** 3. AT THE SAME TIME, a red error message renders at the top of the page: **"You do not have permission to manage this ring."** 4. The changes **DO persist** — reloading the page confirms the new values were saved. So both success and failure messages appear simultaneously. The error is misleading; the save actually worked. **Evidence (visible in screenshot):** - Red error text near the top of the page: "You do not have permission to manage this ring." - Green success toast in the bottom-right: "Ring updated." - DevTools Network tab: PUT request to `dev.gathrings.com/.../update` returned status `200`, response 1.21 kB JSON. **Expected:** if the save returns 200, only the success toast should show. The permission-denied error shouldn't render when the user clearly has permission (the server just accepted the update). An organizer seeing both a success AND an error has no way to know whether their changes were actually saved. **Where:** group edit / manage page. Reproduces after saving changes as an organizer with valid edit permissions. **Repro:** 1. Sign in as an organizer of a group. 2. Open the group's edit/settings page. 3. Make any change (name, description, settings, etc.). 4. Click Save. 5. Observe: - Bottom-right: green "Ring updated." toast ✓ - Top of page: red "You do not have permission to manage this ring." ✗ - Network tab: PUT returned 200 6. Reload the page — the change persisted (so the save worked).
